‘Ring’-ing In Spring

Hello from a very wet and rainy Connecticut! Hoping the storms pass soon – my mom is coming to town tomorrow – spending a few days in New York to kick off the mother/daughter weekend! Planning on shopping, eating and seeing Jersey Boys! Can’t wait.

Since when has Old Navy had an extensive inexpensive jewelry collection? The one near my apartment in Hartford has a huge section! Fun pieces, even better prices. Anyways, when I was at Old Navy the other day picking up my spring staples: cardigans and tank tops, I grabbed this fun ring for $8. Boom. I love big, fun, right-hand rings – here are a few spring favs I found online.

Old Navy, $8

Epoxy Stackable Ring, $7.99 at Target

Tahari Pink Stone Openwork Stretch Ring, $50 at Macy’s

Faceted Dome Ring, $19.90 at The Limited

Maroon Cocktail Ring, $34.37 on Etsy

Michael Kors Pink Buckle Ring, $75 at Macy’s

Have a great week – and have fun ringing in spring!

Three Things I’m Loving This Week

Happy Monday! Hope you had a great weekend! I took complete advantage of the warmer weather on the East Coast this weekend with some shopping and a trip to Boston for the afternoon.

It’s a short work week for me. My mom is coming to visit later in the week. We’re planning on spending a few days in NYC, CT and Boston. Should be a blast!

And now for the three things I’m loving this week…and by the way, Go Blue! I’m cheering on my beloved Michigan Wolverines tonight against Louisville in the NCAA Men’s National Championship game!

Authentic Original Sperry’s

Everyone should own a pair(s) of Sperry’s. I own a few pairs – but recently invested in the Authentic Originals. Cute, comfortable and will go with everything! $85 on Sperry’s website. (Slightly pricey, but completely worth it – trust me!)

Homage (t-shirts)

If you are lucky enough to live in Columbus, Ohio, you’re probably already familiar with the premier t-shirt, clothing and accessories line, Homage. These guys seriously have it all. Check them out. I love every Homage shirt I own – and between my husband and I, we own quite a few. Newest addition to my collection, the Big East Conference shirt. (Yes, I know Big East is going away – that’s a lot of the reason I wanted it). Check out their shirts, you won’t be disappointed. Trust me.

This is why I love sports. It’s things like this that make me love going to work every day. Quick word of advice. Grab a tissue. You’re going to need it. This is awesome.

Three Things I’m Loving This Week

Happy Tuesday! Temps are (slowly) starting to rise across New England – and by rise I mean mid 40s. (Hey, compared to the winter we’ve had, I’ll take it!) Had an eventful and good weekend – spent some time with friends, did a little exploring of CT and of course no weekend is complete without a trip to Target, Macy’s, Marshall’s and/or T.J. Maxx, I also finally got around to watching Les Mis. LOVED it! I’m a huge sucker for musical, so it was right in my wheelhouse. Tomorrow I’m headed home (Ohio) for a few days to visit my husband and sweet little puppies Ziggy and Pepper. Can’t wait!

Today I spent the day in NYC for an event. Very pretty and sunny day in Manhattan! And I loved this little touch of spring I found…

And for this week’s Three Things:

Putnam, CT

I’ve been pretty adventurous the last several weeks – visiting little towns throughout Connecticut. But Saturday I woke up and knew I wanted to explore somewhere, but didn’t have any plans or ideas where. So I literally Googled “cute towns in Connecticut.” A site pulled up a handful, one of which was Putnam. So, I plugged it into my GPS and I was on my way to the Northeast corner of the state – about a 45 minute drive from downtown Hartford.

And so the website was right, it was totally a “cute town in Connecticut.” I loved the stream that ran right through town!

Typical small town shops, restaurants, coffee shops, antique stores and great consignment shops (although I left the town empty-handed!) I didn’t see anything I had to have – but had a lot of fun walking around!

On my way back home, I stopped by UCONN’s campus. Such a great college-town feel; for my Ohio friends, it reminded me a lot of OU. Midsize college in a rural setting. Overall a fun and successful adventure! Who knows where Google or my GPS will take me next!

Tommy Hilfiger Flats

Love these little guys at Macy’s. Obviously I had to have them. They have three versions – different colors. Loved the pale green and white ones. Longing for warmer days so I can wear them!

Danny & Annie Love Story

I’m not going to go on and on here…just watch this. And grab a tissue. Just trust me.

Mint Condition

It. Is. FINALLY. Friday! It’s been another busy week. One of my good friends drove through CT today – it was so good to see him (a little piece of Columbus right here in CT!) He was able to stop by and do the ESPN Tour too.

Bart and I on the set of Mike & Mike.

Me on the set of one of my fav shows on ESPN – First Take. Bring it Skip & Stephen A.!

As always, another fun, never dull moment at work!

And now let’s talk fashion! One of my favorite colors at the moment is mint. It’s so beautiful and perfect for spring. I was recently perusing TheLimited.com and noticed they had an entire section dedicated to their mint-colored clothing. I was in girl heaven! A few of my fav mint pieces from The Limited and other great shops!

What’s your spring go-to color?

Anchors Away!

Maybe it’s because I just bought a new pair of pants, maybe it’s because I was wishing I was on a boat somewhere, or maybe it’s just because I’m so tired of this snow and cold weather on the East Coast that I’m completely dedicating this post to a nautical theme.

Boston, Mass – Summer 2012

Connecticut is currently in the process of receiving a late season winter storm: ice and 4-8 inches of snow. Enough already!

I’ve always been a fan of the nautical trend, but I feel like my love for the style exponentially grew after moving to New England where nautical prep is the name of the game. Count me in!

Boston, Mass – Summer 2012

I loved these bright blue crop pants – complete with tiny green anchors. I bought a lime green button up to match. Again, is it warm out yet? Can’t wait to rock this ensemble – popped collar and all!

A few other nautical favs:

Dizzy Anchors Dress, $168 at J. Crew

Katama Espadrille, $60 from Sperry

Chambray Shirts, $19.50 at Old Navy

Anchor Sweater, $125 at Vineyard Vines

Anchor Tunic, $125 at Vineyard Vines

Cap Sleeve Dress, $24.99 at Target

Navy Infinity Scarf, $16 on Etsy

Nautical Scarf, $14 on Etsy

Nautical Bracelet Set, $39 on Etsy

Sea Queen Earrings, $6 on Etsy

Etsy has a ton of great “anchor” jewelry! Also, if you’re in NYC, check out Canal Street. That’s where I’ve gotten a lot of mine – fun little pieces and super inexpensive.

Anchors Away!

Buy Now, Save Now, Wear Later

Ok, so don’t get me wrong, there’s nothing I love more than shopping for the upcoming season – so in other words, right now I’m completely in spring-shopping mode (it might have to do with the fact that it’s currently snowing in CT and I’m so longing for warmer days). Below picture was me this morning headed into work.

When everything is gloomy and gray, the bright spring colors that line store walls are just what the doctor ordered for any reasonable shopper. But wait, hold that thought. Did you know that sometimes the best times to buy are during end-of-season sales? I know – the last thing you want to buy is another sweater or jacket – but quiet honestly, stores price clothes so low sometimes just to move them out.

I’m a huge fan of end-of-season shopping. Last winter around this time I bought a jacket from The Limited – originally $150, end-of-season after coupons and everything else, I got it for (get this) $17. I’m not kidding. I rock it all the time now!

So you know what? Buy that tweed skirt for $20, grab that sweater for $10, heck, buy those riding boots for $50 – trust me, next year you’ll be glad you did!

A few (amazing) end-of-season deals here:

Gap: Colorblock Stripe Sweater, originally $49.95, marked down to $21.99

White House Black Market: Colorblock Suede Heel, originally $120, marked down to $29.99

The Limited: Ombre Draped Cardigan, originally $69.90, marked down to $14.99

Banana Republic: Faux-fur trim ombre coat, originally $298, marked down to $149.99

The Limited: Draped Metallic Jacket, originally $138, marked down to $39.99

DSW: JS by Jessica Torta Boot, originally $189, marked down to $54.94

Piperlime: Frost Booties, originally $235, marked down to $124.99

DSW: Chinese Laundry Sweetheart Boot, originally $79, marked down to $34.94

Macy’s: Long-Sleeve Striped Draped Cardigan, originally $69.50, marked down to $24.99

Nordstrom: Studded Wool Cloche, originally $68, marked down to $33.98

Big plans this weekend? I spent the evening at H&R Block having my taxes done. (Rockin Friday night). If the weather holds out tomorrow, I’m headed to Providence, RI for the day!

I leave you with this – completely unrelated to anything we’re talking about here, but so good and one of my favorite things on the Internet as of late. Damn it feels good to be a gangsta.

In Honor of Oz

This morning over coffee and SportsCenter, I was flipping through today’s issue of the New York Post and came across their awesome feature on Oz-inspired (emerald) jewelry. By the way…a huge perk of working for ESPN, they are owned by Disney, which means advanced screenings to movies! Got my passes to see Oz: The Great and Powerful tomorrow night. Beyond excited! Check out the trailer:

Anyways, the article in the NYP completely inspired me to find my own favorite emerald pieces. Personally, I don’t think you can go wrong with emerald – looks great with all skin complexions! And, as an added bonus, emerald is a spring 2013 Pantone color.

And now, a few emerald beauties…in honor of Oz.

Golden Opportunity

I did a little…ok, maybe a lot…of shopping this weekend. Grabbed several new pairs of spring shoes at Nordstrom Rack at awesome prices (look for a post on those soon!)

For years and years I really only wore silver (versus gold) jewelry — but in the last year or two, I’ve really transformed — in fact, I’d almost say I wear more gold now than silver. But really, you can’t go wrong with either!

While I was on my mini shopping spree, I grabbed a few gold treasures:

Gold statement necklace, Charming Charlie, $13

Have you been to a Charming Charlie? It’s overwhelmingly delicious the amount of jewelry they have! (Think girl heaven). If you’re looking for some fun, cheap pieces to add to your collection, check it out. I’m anxious to wear this — I know I’ll get a lot of use out of it. Not only can I wear it all four seasons, but it will look great dressed up with a LBD or dressed down with jeans and a v-neck tee.

Coach Bow Sandals, TJ Maxx, $35 IMG_0240

I saw these on the shelf from afar and loved them…and even more so when I saw they were Coach! And $35?! Forget about it, I had to have them. These will look cute with a sun dress or jeans – super versatile.

Here are a few other gold pieces (at many price-points) I really love!

Michael Kors, Gia Metallic Crocoadile-Embossed Leather Tote, $895

Michael Kors, Sloan Small Shoulder Bag, on sale $200.99 at Macy’s

It’s no doubt Michael Kors produces some of the most beautiful bags. Just love these!

INC Lilly Pumps, $89.50 at Macy’s

I love how simple, yet glitzy, these are. I’m picturing these with jeans, a jacket and some big, gold earrings, Muah!

One Shoulder Metallic Woven Sheath Dress, on sale for $159.60 at Nordstrom

Gold bracelet, $7.95 at H&M

Kate Spade ‘Delacorte’ Bangle Watch, $295 at Nordstrom

Tory Burch Print Leather Bracelet, $125 at Nordstrom

Erin Braided Sandal, $15 at Target

Marc Jacobs ‘Bolts’ Cluster Ring, $78 at Nordstrom

What is your go-to color? Silver or gold?

Three Things I’m Loving This Week

I’m back! I’ve been on a slight blog hiatus. A few things factor into this hiatus – work has been really busy, been in and out of NY several times for events (including a sports journalist event at the NYC Twitter HQs – such a cool place!), and I’ve spent a majority of my evenings watching Downton Abbey. I’m so addicted. I just started watching season 3. Anyone else watch it? I’m beyond hooked!

A few pictures from the last couple days:

I take the train in and out of New York from Grand Central Station. One of my favorite buildings in NYC…so romantic.

Always ready to strike a pose! At the #TWSports event at #TwitterNYC

Sports Video Group hosted a Post-Production Storytelling event (a lot of Final Cut Pro talk!) Good stuff.

Jason Aldean/Jake Owen concert with the girls at Mohegan Sun. Great concert! Even better price — tickets were $100, day-of, a handful were released for $24. Game-time decision, but we grabbed them and had a blast!

And now…here’s what I’m loving!

Calvin Klein silk top…for $10

Grabbed this CK silk ruffle top from Macy’s. Originally $50, marked down to $10. Will look great under suit jackets, or paired with jeans. I think every girl should own a few basic shells like these — they go with everything.

J. Crew Gilded Brocade Top

InStyle recently did a crash color course in the color pistachio (a fav of mine!) This J. Crew top was included in the line up. Absolutely beautiful. Love the pattern and mix of gold and pistachio colors (both hot for spring this year!) I love it paired with the white pants. $150 at J. Crew.

Monogrammed Necklace

After more than a month of waiting, my gold monogrammed necklace finally arrived. And I love it!

Puppy Print

I was doing a little window shopping tonight in South Windsor at the Promenade Shops at Evergreen Walk – a great mix of restaurants and  shops. A trend I noticed (and loved) was dog and cat prints on dresses, shirts and skirts. It’s such a unique twist on the traditional embroidered clothing – like these Vineyard Vines whale shorts.

I grabbed this skirt from Target a few weeks ago. Not only did I love the doggie print – but loved the lavender color. Looking forward to warmer weather so I can wear this!

Target: Xhilaration Juniors Belted Skirt (Assorted Colors/Prints), $19.99

ASOS: Exclusive Dress In Dog Print, on sale $41.54

Gap: Printed three-quarter sleeve dress (cat print) ,$69.95

Gap: Fitted boyfriend cat print shirt (in several colors), $54.95

Anthropologie: Fetch & Frolic Dress, $148

Anthropologie: Pooch Posse Cardigan, $118

My inspiration and reason I love the doggie-print trend? These guys – Pepper and Ziggy, my adorable little pups.
